TEMPLAR HISTORICAL POSESSIONS IN CROATIA
Most important manors in Croatia
Because the area of today country of Croatia, was in history one of two most important paths towarrds Holly Land. That is the main reason
why we had a lot of manors during the history. Here we will mention only the most important or the bigest ones:
Preceptory Vrana
At lake Vrana, near Biograd
Build between 1165 and 1169; Vrana belonged to Templar knights for about 150 years.
Senj
King Bela III. gave this fortress and church of st. George to Templars at 1183.g.
Behind Senj, king Andrew II of Hungary gifted to Templars land of Gacka as a expression of gratitude for the crusade 1217.
Preceptory Zablaće
Harbour of Templar knights of Vrana (near Pakoštan)
Church of St. Peter of Beard
Church of St. Peter of Beard was located SW of Split; this was a gift of Pietro Strezzi
Church of St. Mary in Vižinada (Istria)
Church is located at the cemetery near vilage of Vižinada, Istria at so called "Gods' field" (Božje polje). Later on the church has been adopted by Franciscans.
Gora
Templars have had a part of "Gorska županija" (Mountain county) at Pokuplje (Banija), near river Kupa.
Preceptory has been established in the times of Bela IV (1172 - 1196)
Dubica
Today called Bosanska Dubica, southwest of river Sava
Templars has received this maiur from Bela IV (1269), as exchange for the fortress of Senj.
Zagreb – Nova Ves
Bishop Prodan (of Zagreb) (1170-1175) has built a church and monastery for his brothers, Templar Knights
Preceptory St. Martin
At Božjakovina near Dugo Selo.
It was a gift of king Andrew II somewhere before 1209.
Preceptory Glogovnica
Zagabrian bishop Prodan gifted Glogovnica to the Templars between 1170 and 1175.
Located near town of Križevci
Church in Nova Rača
During the exchange of maiurs with Zagabrian bishop, Templars got a land of Ras(c)ha arround 1230.
This maiur is located west of town of Bjelovar.
Templars has built a church of Blessed Virgin Mary. Today only gothic sacristy has been preserved
Zdelja
A gift from king Stjepan III (1165)
Located south of Virje (village in Podravina), near creek of Zdelja, at the southwest slopes of mountain Bilogora.
St. Martin - Našice
Templars has received maiur Mašice form the Banus Jula (1221 - 1230) and her wife Jelena.
City of Opoj
At the hill of Budim, not far from Rasinja, built by banus Opoj (governor of Slavonia)
It is firstly mentioned at 1170. Latter on it was a gift to the Templars for the salvation of his soul.
Pakrac Maiur
Regions of Pakrac, Trnava, Čaklovec and Bijela were a maiurs owned by Turks, and Templars has won those maiurs in fight.
Lješnica and Račeša
In the county of Požega, lands of Lješnica and Račeša were confirmed to be Templars' property at 1210.
Those maiurs were a gift of Odolja (grandson of Andrew II)
Documents from 1250 confirmed the Templar property of woods at mountain Papuk, just above Kaptol and Kutjevo
At 1287, Templars were gifted by maiur of Berzenicha (Breznica, not far from Pleternica).
Gornji Slatinik – soutwest slope of mountain Dilj
Remainings of huge Templars' maiur whose center was fortress and monastery Brišćana (Borostyan) at mountain Petnja, above village of Završje (east form Sibinj)
Lovčić - above Stari Slatnik and Brodski Stupnik
Remainings of old fortress near church of St. Martin in Lovčić. A residues of "Staro selo" has been found here, dispersed arround hils of Kućišta.
Ostatci stare gradine nedaleko crkve sv. Martina u Lovčiću. Tu je postojalo Staro selo, raštrkano po brežuljcima na Kućištima.
Turks came at 1536 and devastated all the area.
Kloštar – Slavonski Kobaš
Remainings of the Templar fortress where were a Templars' horse station located.
Church Lučica – near Lipovac
Close to joint of rivers Spačva and Bosut, just few miles from Lipovac (far northeast of Croatia).
Church of St. Luke
It was Templars' monastery behind a church of St. Luke, gifted by king Ljudevit IX (king of Francs).
Monastery was distructed by Turks, and remainings are present still today. This maiur has become a famous place of pilgirmage in the name of Lady of Lučić.
